About a year after it's conception in 1995 and around the release of a first single "Trust/Apple Juice" (September, 1996), Purr started playing shows around France.
The band continued to develop it's personality, alternating tensions with looseness, while integrating jazzy rhythms within the atmospheres of deep emotion.
Their first album, "Whales Lead To The Deep Sea" was released in September 1997, and was the French indie revelation of the year. In 1998, the band focused on parallel projects before starting to compose their new album.
"OPEN TRANSPORT" surprised everyone with it's growth and change. The album contained both French and English lyrics and only one instrumental track. While conserving the full identity of the band, the writing and composing had fully matured, and the position of Thomas Mery's voice next to genius arrangements, situated the band at the edge of modern pop and "chanson". The album was recorded in April 2000 at Black Box studio by Peter Deimel and was produced by Luke Sutherland (English writer, producer and musician known for Long Fin Killie, Bows and his collaborations with Mogwaï).
